Why joining Loki at Inria Lille - Nord Europe / CRIStAL?
You would join the Loki research group whose research aims at producing original ideas, fundamental knowledge and practical tools to inspire, inform and support the design of human-computer interactions.
The Loki research group is based in the Lille - Nord Europe Inria research center, associated to the University of Lille and located in the Lille area. The University of Lille in combination with Inria Lille is ranked among the top institutions in France for Human-Computer Interaction research (4th nationally, 2026, EduRank), reflecting its strong scientific impact and international visibility. Within this environment, Loki is the largest HCI research team in Lille, addressing core challenges in Human-Computer Interaction. The Loki team focuses on how people use, adapt to, and make sense of interactive systems, and delivers both theoretical advances and practical tools to support the design of effective, cognitively grounded interactions. It has a strong international presence, with regular publications at leading venues such as ACM CHI, DIS, and UIST, and multiple best paper awards. Loki plays an active role in major national initiatives and sustains long-standing collaborations with leading academic partners across Europe and North America. Lille is at the northern tip of France and its metropolitan area is the 5th biggest in France. At the crossroads of northern continental Europe and thanks to its Eurostar train station, it is 35 minutes away from Brussels, 1 h away from Paris and 80 minutes away from London. With four international airports (including Paris Charles de Gaulle and Brussels Zaventem) less or around one hour away by bus or train, it is of easy access from virtually anywhere in the world. Overall, Lille is a very enjoyable city with a nice old city centre with lots of typical bars and restaurants.
